Tankwa Fly In

2010-03-20

ZU-EPL was a Jora which I owned with Phil Bristow and Mark Bowes some years back. This is footage of a fly in we did to the Tankwa Karoo. It was a barnstorming trip where we landed on the R355 between Ceres and Calvinia which holds the record for being the longest, uninterrupted dirt road in South Africa. Phil was our navigator and guided us through the mountains with his uncanny skill and natural ability to fly pretty much any light aircraft.

We flew out on the Saturday from Stellenbosch airfield and slept under the stars on the R355. Sunday morning saw a cooler day. As we took off for the flight back to Cape Town we ran into cloud at Ceres and ducked under it and through Mitchell's Pass routing direction Vogelvlei and back to Stellenbosch (FASH).

This is the video of the trip.
